Yilo Krobo Senior High School actively participates in the National Science & Maths Quiz to encourage students to develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The competition provides a platform for our brightest science students to challenge themselves, represent the school with pride, and demonstrate their knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Through this prestigious academic contest, students are motivated to pursue excellence in science and innovation while strengthening their confidence, teamwork, and intellectual curiosity.
Yilo Krobo Senior High School made its historic debut in the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) in 2022 after successfully qualifying through the Eastern Regional stage—marking a significant academic milestone for the school.
At the regional qualifiers, the school delivered an impressive performance, defeating strong competitors including Manya Krobo Senior High School, Akim Asafo Senior High School, Mangoase Senior High School, and Kwabeng Anglican Senior High School. The team demonstrated exceptional knowledge, teamwork, and confidence throughout the contest, securing one of the highest scores in the region with 61 points.
This remarkable achievement not only highlighted the school’s growing strength in science and mathematics but also positioned Yilo Krobo SHS as a rising force in academic competitions within the Eastern Region and beyond. The experience inspired many students to develop a deeper interest in STEM subjects and strengthened the school’s commitment to nurturing analytical thinking, curiosity, and academic excellence. Since this breakthrough appearance, the school has continued to encourage talented science students to participate actively in quiz competitions and academic programmes that challenge them to reach their full intellectual potential.
In its sophomore national attempt in 2023, Yilo Krobo Senior High School elevated its performance on the NSMQ stage, showcasing growth, determination, and exceptional scientific acumen. The team overcame tough opponents including St. Monica’s SHS and Atebubu SHS to reach the One-eighth stage, where they further impressed by eliminating both Fijai SHS and St. Hubert Seminary SHS.
Their outstanding performance, characterized by speed, accuracy, and teamwork, earned them the Dr. Kwaku Mensa-Bonsu Award for the “Most Impressive Run” of NSMQ 2023. This recognition not only celebrated their success on the national stage but also highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering excellence in science and mathematics.
The achievement inspired the entire school community, motivating both students and staff to continue striving for academic excellence.
