history of the school
Yilo Krobo Senior High School, Somanya, is a government co-education institution, which was founded in 1964 by Nene Akrobettoe II, Kornor of Yilo Krobo Traditional Area and some concerned citizens of Somanya with students population of forty six(46). The School was christened Somanaya Secondray School (SOMASCO).
In 1966, the School was taken over by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and was consequently named Somanya Presbyterian Secondary School. The present site and some of the structures were for Yilo Girls’ Middle Boarding School. The Administration block for example was the Science Centre.
The Yilo State took over the school and named it Yilo Krobo Secondary School, in June 1974. In September 1977, it was amalgamated with Universal College Somanya and was given yet another name Yilo Krobo Secondary Commercial School to reflect the scope and content of the studies pursued. The School at that time focused on the study of Business Programmes and became one of the best Business school in the country.
As a result of the Educational Reforms in the year 2000 the school’s name was again changed to Yilo Krobo Senior High School – Somanya

Coordinates: The school is located at approximately 6.09852° N latitude and –0.02581° W longitude
Neighborhood landmarks: It’s near the Somanya Post Office and not far from Krobo Odumase town
Geographic context: The school lies below the Akwapim-Togo mountain range within the Yilo Krobo Municipality
